Coaching CASL Soccer

The East Lansing Soccer Club fields girls and boys teams in the competative Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) for ages U10 and higher (under special circumstances, the club will allow and field a U9 team). CASL teams play against other competitive clubs throughout the tri-county area. This league constitutes an excellent platform for kids who want to play at the most competitive level in the area, The Michigan State Premiere Soccer League (formerly Little Caesar), which is comprised of the top players from Ingham County and compete state-wide.

To become considered for coaching a CASL team through the ELSC, you must complete paperwork listed below, and return all of it to the ELSC Director. The East Lansing Soccer Club Board of Directors will make the final determination as to who will coach the CASL team.

  • Prospective coaches must submit to a background check. This may be done through Michigan Youth Soccer's website, on the Risk Management page. Please read over the information on this page and complete the necessary paperwork. When you have passed the background check, you will be given a Risk Management Card. A CASL coach must keep a copy of this card on their person at all times during games and practices, and a copy must also be kept in the team paperwork folder.
  • Prospective coaches must read and sign the Code of Ethics form.
  • Prospective coaches must complete the Coaches Application Form.

In addition, CASL coaches must meet the following requirements:

Requirements for CASL Soccer

  • Candidates (18 years or older) must submit an application/resume to the East Lansing Soccer Club Board of Directors for consideration in the spring for the following season.
  • The head coach must be 18 or older.
  • A background check is required.
  • All CASL coaches are required to have an E License obtained within their first year of coaching CASL soccer.

CASL will provide each coach with player cards (for both players and coaches) and an official team roster. It is recommended that coaches make extra copies of this roster for tournaments, etc. Each player and coach must sign their card. Their picture must be laminated and attached to the card, and all cards should be placed on a metal ring for easy access at any game or practice.
